John Okafor , aka Mr. Ibu, commands a huge fan base and he is in fact one of the most popular actors in the country.
While many may be willing to trade their limbs for the type of fame Mr. Ibu has , the comic actor is not entirely happy about his status. He told Sunday Scoop, “ A lot of people think I ’m stupid and foolish because of the roles I play in movies . At times , when I have something meaningful to say , people don ’ t take me serious as they think I ’m cracking jokes . People also think that I ’m an illiterate but that ’s not true . I come from a humble background and I struggled a lot while growing up . My parents weren ’t well - to - do so I had to hustle to get whatever I wanted by myself . We were basically living from hand to mouth and our situation was quite pathetic . However, despite our lack , I still considered education as a priority and I always had it at the back of my mind that I would keep learning . I attended the Institute of Management…

Buhari’s endless returns

Image
By Obi Nwakanma
It is a peculiarly Nigerian thing to be governed from the capital of another foreign nation. The implication of this startling fact seems also generally lost to Nigerians. Nigeria has always defied logic. Perhaps it is not the public we should be worried about; perhaps there is no public worth its name – a national public consciousness demands an enlightened citizenship – perhaps it is just simply the level or lack thereof, of a general political consciousness, but the means of public enlightenment is fraught with its own profound contradictions.
Perhaps it is just simply that Nigerians no longer care about the nature of their own nation and sovereignty. Nigeria has been so battered, its public and political institutions so totally corrupted and bastardized that political action and political morality is no longer necessary in measuring the status of its nationhood. What is Nigeria? Nigeria is a sick nation stuck between its neocolonial status and its predatory condit…

US President Donald Trump warned Saturday that he would not allow China to “ do nothing ” on North Korea after the hermit state launched an intercontinental ballistic missile it boasted could reach the United States .
North Korean leader Kim Jong - Un boasted of his country’s ability to strike any target in the US after the ICBM test that weapons experts said could even bring New York into range — in a major challenge to Trump .
Under Kim ’s leadership , North Korea has accelerated its drive towards a credible nuclear strike capability , in defiance of international condemnation and multiple sets of UN sanctions .
In his critique of Beijing , which came in two tweets , Trump linked trade strains with the Asian giant — marked by a trade deficit of $ 309 billion last year — to policy on North Korea, after South K…

Embattled Trump replaces chief of staff

Image
US President Donald Trump ousted his beleaguered chief of staff Reince Priebus on Friday, replacing him with Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly after vicious White House infighting spilled into the open. Only hours after a humiliating defeat on health care reforms had underlined his tenuous control over his party in Congress, Trump announced a second shakeup of his inner circle in barely a week. White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Kelly would start in his new post Monday. Priebus has been under fire for weeks, seeing one White House ally after another resign or leave, culminating in the departure of press secretary Sean Spicer a week ago. His exit appeared inevitable when Trump did not intervene as his new communications director Anthony Scaramucci publicly described Priebus as a “paranoid schizophrenic” in a foul-mouthed tirade that also saw him savage another top Trump aide. Trump announced the switch on Twitter after a trip to New York, on which he was accompan…

‘You’re A Son Of Darkness & Should Be Arrested’ – APC Replies Peter P-Square Over Abroad Ban

Image
The All Progressives Congress(APC) youth renaissance group has fired a stinker at Peter Okoye of P-square for insulting the Federal government of Nigeria.
In a statement signed by the group’s national secretary, Mr Collins Edwin and made available to newsmen, the APC described Okoye as a ‘son of darkness’. The statement read in full;
We read the scurrilous remarks credited to Mr Peter Okoye of the Psquare group against the Federal Government’s job-saving policy in the entertainment industry with great anger and vexation.
Least of all persons to make scathing remark against the government is the Psquare group which the local content policy of the Federal Government dusted-up from the valley of obscurity.
Where was Peter Okoye or Psquare brand in 1999 when foreign music dominated our airwaves? If not for the government policy which mandated all broadcast stations in Nigeria to pay attention to Nigerian music by playing 95 percent of Nigerian songs every day, would Peter Okoye or Psquar…
